Volunteer of the Month Award

Last month, our Featured Artist for January was awarded ‘Volunteer of the Month’ as you can see in the above picture with Sherri Lemhouse. It was a wonderful surprise to Pat to be acknowledged for all of the wonderful work she has done for the community of Brownsville.

Hopefully you had a chance to see her art on display in January, and the article about her in the paper. Next time you see Pat, be sure to thank her for all she has done!

BAA has Facebook!

“Like” us on Facebook! We have a new admin running the page, and she would like your help in making the Brownsville Art Association more popular on Facebook! So if you have a Facebook account, follow the link and “Like” our page! You can also invite your friends to like the page, and you can tell us if you are ‘interested’ or ‘attending’ any of our events! (Check out the Valentine Reception!)

February Featured Artist

Cassandra Schumacher
Cassandra has been drawing since she was young, creating characters and creatures from her imagination. Her skill steadily grew through school, but leapt dramatically when she attended the Academy of Art in San Francisco. She has been the lead instructor for the Sketchbook Club, and children’s drawing camps. You can find her work on deviant art here.

1. Full Name : Cassandra Schumacher

2. What is your favorite art medium? Colored Ink.

3. How long have you been working with that medium?
I don’t know, maybe 6 or 7 years.

4. Do you expand outside of your primary medium? Why or why not?
Yes, because I like to see what I can do with other mediums. I like to experiment.

5. Where do you find inspiration for your art?
Everywhere. Nature, animals, past experiences. Life in general.

6. What is the best part of being an artist?
Being able to express what is on my mind on paper, and I like to tell stories with my art.

7. What is the hardest part of being an artist?
Forcing yourself to do it when you don’t feel like it.

8. How and where do you sell/present your art?
I present my artwork mostly online. My alias is Luminous Tigress.

9. Who supported you during the time you decided to become an artist?
My family.

10. What advice do you have for beginning artists?
Practice, and draw all the time. Keep a sketchbook so you can see where you have progressed from. NEVER throw anything away. Be patient, even if it doesn’t feel like it, your skill is growing as long as you keep practicing.
