Annual Member Meeting Recap

We had 34 members attend the meeting on Saturday, January 26 from 1-3 pm at the Brownsville Art Center upstairs in the Community Room. Cookies and Mike Purkerson’s coffee were served. We only had 11 members not able to attend.

Tuesday Night Open Studio

Cheryl Haworth gave a description of the event.

  • Joni has an email list – send her an email at: billnjoni@peak.org to be added to notifications about meeting up.
  • 6 pm is a typical meet-up time.
  • Winter – meet at the Art Center or Rhoda’s Cosy Rose Studio
  • Summer – on location, Plein Air, figure drawing at Rhoda’s (models are clothed)
  • Often a critique period after the drawing session, positive-focused feedback, our art style is not the same, everyone has different styles.
  • THIS TUESDAY (JANUARY 30) at the Art Center – Giraffe repair and painting.

Classes/Education

1.    2/10 Brynn Carter’s Acrylic class has three people signed up

2.    Jeff Brown – making concealed books for hiding money, treasures etc.

3.    Encourage outside artists to attend

4.    FUNDRAISING: Coffee Tasting, chocolate tasing, etc.? (we are not allowed to do wine tasting at City Hall)

Added Operating Expenses

1.    RENT: We now pay $100/month for rent (includes electricity and internet) = $1,200

2.    PROPERTY TAX: We now have to pay property tax of about $1,600/year. However Scott and Lori have been trying to work around it, but for now the

·     2024 year will be covered by the City

·     2025 we will be required to pay half

·     2026 we will pay all.

3.    INSURANCE: $700/year

4.    Eventually we will be paying $2,500 year in operating expenses

  • Non-profit status won’t help at all as we are a selling club
  • Become a City agency? Still does not solve our problem
  • If we were only sporadically using the space, but we are permanent

  • This committee has a special rating system so ties do not occur in voting.
  • This has been a successful committee with current practices.

Membership

Rhoda proposed to add a new membership or supporter fee for $25.Voted on and passed.

Budget Approval

The motion of approval of the budget for 2024 was initiated by Linda McCormick, seconded by Joni Nelson and passed.

New Business

Uriah Roth proposed an event “Grandma’s Attic” An art exchange Friday night during set up between participating artists (sell, trade), open on Saturday to the public. Opportunity to clear out your space, can be art that is part of your collection, not necessarily yours.

Frames to Sell – Lori mentioned she was offered a lot of various frames that we could sell to help cover new expenses.

Mike Purkerson told us a little bit about coffee tasting and education.

Artist Information

A sheet was handed out with agenda for each artist to update their address, phone, and cell phone (and which one is the preferred one to be contacted by), e-mail address, and was asked to add if they were interested in columns with an “x”
