The Brownsville Art Association (BAA), founded over 10 years ago, is an all-volunteer organization whose purpose is to promote and encourage arts of all kinds and at all levels. The BAA is formally structured as a 501 c4 federally-recognized civic organization. The Art Center headquarters for BAA, next door to City Hall, 255 Main Street in downtown historic Brownsville, houses the Art Gallery with rotating exhibits, an art store offering original artwork by member artists, and an educational space where adults and youngsters can enjoy classes and workshops. Artwork by member artists available for purchase ranges from paintings in watercolor, acrylics, oils; jewelry; glasswork; woodwork and handmade furniture; cards and gift boxes; photography; metalwork; ceramic pieces; and sculpture.
The Art Center, open Wednesday 1pm to 4pm and Thursdays-Saturdays from 10-4, is hosted by volunteers. Artists’ Receptions, almost monthly with every new rotating exhibit, welcome the public, inviting folks to meet the artists and enjoy their work. Educational workshops are designed for artists at all levels and all ages; a tuition fee is charged for workshops. Tuesday Night Open Studio at the Art Center from 6-9:00pm is a favorite opportunity for an informal gathering of artists working independently on their own projects. First Tuesdays from September through May are special evenings of free instruction with artist Rhoda Fleischman.
BAA has nearly 100 members from around the Central Linn and East Linn area. Members are a dedicated bunch, totally supportive of the importance of the arts to community and devoted to offering a full range of arts experiences to the public. An elected Board of Directors manages the Brownsville Art Association and its activities. For more information, drop in at the Art Center during open hours.
